Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are teaming up to create schema.org and add meaning to the web not just search. Schema is; “a collection of schemas, i.e., html tags, that webmasters can use to markup their pages in ways recognized by major search providers”. Source: Schema. According to Tom Simonite of Technology Review; we can think of the Semantic Web as “a technology that makes online information as comprehensible to computers as it is to humans.” The Semantic Web bridges the gap between the human readable web and machine-readable metadata about web pages and the information contained within those pages. This added functionality would allow for much better and more relevant search results, new types of search engine capabilities and more importantly, the creation of automated web agents that could perform complex tasks on behalf of the user. When combined with natural language processing web usage and interaction could evolve from something we browse to something we simply talk to.
