Known as the ProMade PoC (Point of Care) Center, the new FDA-regulated commercial facility on HSS’s main campus in New York City will create faster access to more personalized solutions for very complex orthopedic conditions. Integration with the world’s first academic medical center specializing in musculoskeletal health will advance cutting-edge solutions to the most complex orthopedic challenges.

“This revolutionary partnership reflects our sense of responsibility to innovate better possibilities, not only for our patients but also for other providers,” said Louis A. Shapiro, President and CEO of HSS. “Almost half a century ago, HSS specialists developed modern total knee replacement surgery, transforming the lives of millions of patients. Today, alongside LimaCorporate, we hope to further accelerate complex musculoskeletal solutions by expanding our ecosystem and providing surgeons with the best-in-class patient. care technology, on-site. ”

Custom patient-specific solutions, such as those that will be designed and produced at the Promade PoC Center, are used for more complex procedures and are digitally designed prior to surgery to ideally match the patient’s anatomy. LimaCorporate’s acclaimed and patented system Trabecular Titanium technology ensures a positive biological response in the bone. HSS patients will be scanned on site, and their personalized implant will be designed and manufactured in the on-site center. This design and manufacturing service will also be available to patients from other US hospitals.

HSS and LimaCorporate have been collaborating remotely on personalized patient-specific solutions since 2016. The new on-site facility will enable dynamic collaboration between LimaCorporate’s ProMade engineers and HSS surgeons and biomechanical engineers, ensuring patients the highest levels of quality, reliability and speed. The integration will reduce surgery time by several weeks for HSS patients requiring custom 3D printed components.

“The opening of the Promade PoC Center marks the next step in achieving our ultimate goal of restoring the emotion of movement, enabling surgeons to improve patient outcomes for joint replacement surgery,” said LimaGeneral Director Luigi Ferrari. “We are no strangers to questioning the status quo and, through this premier partnership, we will continue to innovate our cutting-edge solutions to meet the real needs of patients. We look forward to sharing our expertise with HSS and continuing our commitment to advancing patient-centered care. “

United States”

HSS was one of the first hospitals to recognize the benefits of specialized and integrated biomechanical engineering and manufacturing. Its world-renowned engineering team was formed in 1976 and, since 1978, has had a close collaboration with Cornell University Sibley School of mechanical and aerospace engineering. The daily collaboration between surgeons and engineers at HSS has advanced both implants and orthopedic techniques, including the design of the first posterior knee stabilized by John N. Insall MD and Albert Burstein PhD.

With over 14 years of clinical experience, LimaCorporate is at the forefront of 3D printing. Recognizing the enormous potential of the field for orthopedic implants as titanium 3D printing gained momentum, his initial vision and continued investments have restored the mobility of hundreds of thousands of patients around the world. This new state-of-the-art facility further extends the company’s global reach.
