Using nature to grow batteries

How can we leverage biological processes to build the things we need and use every day? Nature does a great job at building the structures it needs by using chemical and biological processes to build nanostructures that are strong, functional and long lasting. Researcher Angela Belcher “programs viruses to make elegant nanoscale structures that humans can use. Selecting for high-performing genes through directed evolution, she’s produced viruses that can construct powerful new batteries, clean hydrogen fuels and record-breaking solar cells.” Source TED.com
